Preparing your shipments for transit is extremely important. Correct preparation can prevent damage, which results in dissatisfaction, extra charges, and lost time. PNG Logistics takes pride in customer satisfaction so here are some steps that you can take to assure that your shipment arrives promptly and safely.

OUTER PACKAGING

When it comes to outer packaging, using old cardboard boxes or even new thin cardboard is not recommended for packaging your shipments because they simply do not provide enough protection for your products. Most shipments are secure within corrugated cardboard that is sturdy; however, wood crates give better protection for items that are heavy and dense or items that are fragile. It is essential that you match the outer packaging to the size of your shipment. If the outer packaging is too small, your products will not have enough protection. If your packaging is too large, your products may shift or move around too much and break. Sealing the outer packaging is also crucial. We recommend that you use reinforced tape to ensure that your shipments are securely sealed.

PACKING MATERIALS

It is important to use enough packing materials to keep the products from moving around inside the packaging. Be sure to put packing materials in between items for protection. Using an inner box that is surrounded by soft materials provides extra protection. Ensure that the corners of your shipment will not bend or tear by reinforcing the corners of the outer packaging from the inside. It is also important to consider different types of packing materials. The type of product will help you decide which material to use such as: molded plastic, shredded paper, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, corrugated fiberboard, or other types of materials.

PALLETIZING SHIPMENTS

When palletizing your shipments, build a cube with a flat and level top surface. Also, make sure that the vertical edges of the pallets are aligned. Choosing a pallet that is in good condition and bigger than the items that you are putting on it is also critical. You can hold multiple objects together by using shrink wrap or stretch wrap – multiple layers of the wrap may be necessary. Always be sure to use bands, ratchet straps, rope, or tie downs to secure your products to the pallet.
